The Citizen’s Academy is an educational program designed to create a greater understanding and trust between public safety agencies and the residents of Folsom. The Citizen's Academy is also a required training program for the CAPS (Citizens Assisting Public Safety) Volunteer Program. Folsom Police, Folsom Fire and guest agencies participate in the program to provide information on their services.
The Folsom Police Department covers topics such as Use of Force, CSI, Identity theft, 9-1-1 reporting, SWAT, Narcotics, Domestic Violence, Hostage Negotiations, and K-9 and Mounted Demonstrations. The Folsom Fire Department teaches Emergency Services. Topics such as Code Enforcement, Parks and Recreation, Animal Services and Water Management are taught by other City agencies.
The Citizen's Academy is held annually. The Academy is open interested residents, age 21 or over. An initial background check will be completed on all applicants. Interested applicants who wish to become CAPS volunteers will be subject to a full law enforcement background.
Please print and bring the application along with your photo ID to the Folsom Police Department at 46 Natoma Street.
